Speech Title: HOW TO WRITE A SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PAPER FOR PUBLICATION IN SCI (E) JOURNALS
Abstract:To write a research paper in Chemistry, one must consider about the following points carefully.
Step 1: First select the Journal, in which you wish to publish your research paper. The Journal should be related to your research area. For example, if you work on Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Natural products, then it must be related to this area. It will be funny if you send your research paper for example in Transition Metal Chemistry or Inorganica Chimica Acta or Polyhedron etc. Because these journals publish work related to Inorganic Chemistry papers.
Step 2: Check the impact factor of the Journal in which you wish to publish your research paper.
What is impact factor? The impact factor (IF) is a measure reflecting the average number of citation to articles published in a science journals. It is frequently used as a proxy for the relative importance of a journal within its field, with journals with higher impact factors deemed to be more important than those with lower ones. The impact factor was devised by “EUGENE GARFIELD”, the founder of the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) Philadelphia, USA, now part of Thomson Reuters. Impact factor (IF) are calculated yearly for those journals Thar are indexed in Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
Calculation of IF.
For year 2015 IF = A/B
A = The number of times published in 2013 and 2014 were cited by indexed journal during the year 2015.
B = The total number of articles published by that journal in 2013 and 2014.
It is also to be noted that 2014 IF are actually published in 2015. They cannot be calculated until all of the 2014 publications have been processed by the indexing agency.
According to the policy of University Grants Commission, New Delhi, India for promotion guidelines, the journal should have impact factor.
For Ph.D. students, it is mandatory to publish at least 2 research papers in SCI/SCI (expanded) research Journal on his/her thesis work prior to submission of Thesis.
Step 3: After finalizing the journal, take the reprint of one published paper of that Journal. Check all the points carefully, For example,
(a) What is the format of the Journal?
(b) Style of the paper.
(c) References.
Step 4: Generally the paper must have
(a) Meaningful Title.
(b) Name of all the authors.
(c) Mention who is the corresponding author.
(d) Affiliation of all the authors.
(e) E-mail id. (personal). Sometimes author send the paper not by his/her e-mail id. They use the e-mail id of the Cyber café. So for Editor it is difficult to contact them.
(f) Abstract of the paper, should not more than 6-8 lines.
(g) Key words (maximum 6- 8 words)
Step 5: For writing the research paper, divide your paper under sub headings, For example,
(a) Introduction: In introduction first give the historical background of the research work with latest references and then give the object/aim of your work.
(b) Experimental: This part contains all the experimental aspects (i.e., Chemicals, Apparatus, Instruments used. Techniques and practical work.
(c) Results and Discussion: In the R & D explain and interpret the obtained results. The results should be supported by previous references. In case if your results do not agree/or match with the previous work, then justify/explain the reason why your results are contrary to previous workers. Of you like you can condemn the previous work and emphasize your work strongly.
(d) Conclusion: In this part, conclude your work and future scope of the work.
(e) Acknowledgement: If you wish to acknowledge, you can.
(f) References: Check the format of the references of a particular Journal. Don’t forget to insert all the references in the text by number at appropriate place of the body of the Text of your research paper. In addition to references, give the placing of the Tables, Figures and Scheme in the Text.
So dear participants write good and scientific research papers and try to publish in a Journal of high impact factor.
