Esteban Broitman received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1997. He has been doing research and teaching at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), The College of William and Mary (USA), and Carnegie Mellon University (USA). He is currently a Professor at Linköping University (Sweden). His research activities focus on the nanomechanical and nanotribological properties of hard coatings of carbon-based coatings, nanocomposites, and soft materials like soft metals and polymers.

N.M. Ravindra (Ravi) is Professor of Physics & Director, Interdisciplinary Program in Materials Science and Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology. He was the Chair of the Physics Department & Director, Interdisciplinary Program in Materials Science and Engineering at NJIT from 2009 to 2013.

Speech Title: Engineered Composite Materials, Polymers, Chalcogenides – Application to Thermoelectrics
Abstract:With their ability to directly convert waste heat into useful electricity, thermoelectric (TE) materials are promising candidates to achieve the challenge to recover energy. Most important applications of TE materials are in coolers and power generators to convert thermal energy into electrical energy and vice versa. A dimensionless quantity, ZT (ZT=S2σT/κ), and the power factor (S2σ), are used to evaluate the performance of thermoelectric (TE) materials; S is the Seebeck coefficient (or thermoelectric power), σ is the electrical conductivity, κ is the thermal conductivity and T is the temperature (in K). The state of the art TE materials are known to have a value of ZT~1, at room temperature.
An overview of the application of engineered composite materials, polymers, chalcogenides and other material candidates to thermoelectrics is presented. Methods and case studies for improving ZT are discussed.

Alexander Khotsianovsky, Ph.D., National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Pisarenko Institute of Strength of Materials, Kiev, Ukraine

Dr. A. Khotsianovsky has received his Ph.D degree in Mechanical Engineering and Fracture Mechanics at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1990. He conducts research in the field of innovative spacecraft and aircraft applications as senior research fellow at the Institute of Problems of Strength (Kiev, Ukraine) and as an invited research fellow in DLR (Cologne, Germany). His research interests cover a wide range from coatings, tribology and fretting-fatigue of advanced space/aircraft materials to polymer-additive applications and hydroelasticity problems for supercavitation high-speed underwater vehicles. He is associate editor of the international journal Strength of Materials (Springer, US), guest editor in IOP Conference Series and other International Journals indexed in different databases. He takes an active part in international joint projects on drag reduction of superspeed underwater vehicles (US-Ukraine, 2015) and advanced material development for spacecraft applications (China-Ukraine, 2015). In the last three years, he participated as keynote speaker in three Global conferences on Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) in China.
Speech Title: Polymer aqueous solutions to drag reduction of supercavitating underwater vehicles (a comparative analysis of China, US and post-Soviet fundamental developments)
Abstract: In-water motion speed of modern surface vessels is limited by viscous resistance/drag of water, which increases with the motion speed. The lecture describes the latest developments worldwide in drastic drag reduction by separating the vessel hull from water using a disk- or cone-shaped cavitator, which “opens an umbrella” over the major part of the hull to produce an ellipsoidal air bubble (supercavity) inflated by an artificial or natural air inflow, thus providing a very high motion speed. Prof. Kim Meow LIEW, Head and Chair Professor of Civil Engineering, Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China

Professor K. M. Liew received his BS (Civil Engineering) from Michigan Technological University in 1985, his MEng (Civil Engineering) in 1988 and PhD. (Solid Mechanics) in 1991 both from the National University of Singapore. He joined City University of Hong Kong in 2005 as a Chair Professor at the Department of Building and Construction, and currently the Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering since 2011. Speech Title: Mechanical Behavior of Nanocomposites
Abstract: It is widely accepted that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are an advanced material possessing high strength and stiffness as well as a high aspect ratio and low density. Research findings have reported the remarkable physical and mechanical properties of CNTs, making them a strong candidate for the reinforcements in polymer composites. The axial Young's modulus of single-walled carbon nanotube arrays with diameters ranging from nanometer to meter scales. The mechanical properties of CNTs are superior to those of carbon fibers. In recent studies, CNTs have been designed to be uniaxially aligned in an axial direction following the functionally graded pattern, leading to a new class of composite material – that is, the CNT reinforced functionally graded composite material. This CNT-reinforced composite can be used in the form of beam, plate or shell structural components. Because of their use in a variety of structures, studies of their mechanical behavior, in terms of bending, buckling, vibration, large deformation, postbuckling and large amplitude vibration have received considerable attention. In this talk, the effects of various geometric and material parameters on the mechanical behavior of CNT reinforced functionally graded structures will be presented.

R.K. AGARWAL received his Ph.D (1980) and D.Sc.(2000) PG Diploma in Macromolecular Chemistry from Charles University, Czech Republic in 1981 . He served at Meerut College as a lecturer in Chemistry from 1969 to 1970 and then were invited into Lajpat Rai College as a Senior lecturer to Associate Professor yet retired in June 2011. He was also an Associate Professor at University of South Pacific, Suva, Fiji from 2003 to 2005. In 2008, he became a Professor of Eritrea Inst. of Technology, Asmara, Eritrea. Up till now, He has published a total number of 250 works and supervised 35 Ph.D. students. He has took part in many international activities held in USA, Czech Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Poland, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Fiji and Dubai etc. At present, he is the Editor in Chief of Asian Journal of Chemistry with his main research interests covering coordination chemistry and bio-inorganic chemistry fields.
